KUALA LUMPUR (April 15): Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) (KL: TENAGA), via its wholly owned subsidiary TNB Repair and Maintenance Sdn Bhd (TNB REMACO), has secured a RM705 million contract from the Kuwait Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy for maintenance works at the Sabiya Power Generation and Water Distillation Plant in Kuwait.
The seven-year contract, awarded through a joint venture with Kuwait-based Al Dhow Engineering, will cover maintenance, repair, and overhaul services for the facility located 65km from Kuwait City.
The plant houses four oil- and gas-powered units with a total generation capacity of 299.4 megawatts, playing a key role in Kuwait’s national energy supply.
TNB president and chief executive officer Datuk Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan said the agreement demonstrates confidence in the joint venture’s capabilities.
“This contract aligns with TNB’s mission to be a leading provider of sustainable energy solutions, both in Malaysia and internationally. Beyond Kuwait, our global footprint extends to the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Cambodia,” Megat Jalaluddin said.
The contract signing ceremony was held on March 12, 2025, at the National Bank of Kuwait Head Office. Megat Jalaluddin and Al Dhow Engineering chairman Isam Al-Sager officiated. Also present were TNB Power Generation Sdn Bhd (TNB Genco) managing director and TNB REMACO chairman Datuk Muhamad Nazri Pazil, and TNB REMACO managing director Abidin Sarjo.
Muhamad Nazri said TNB REMACO has built a strong presence in Kuwait since entering the market in 2013.
He said the company now manages 11 active projects worth over RM4.54 billion. Since 2013, 16 TNB experts have been sent to Kuwait, with six currently managing the ongoing projects.
TNB REMACO, a subsidiary of TNB Genco, specialises in operations, maintenance, and engineering services for gas, steam, and hydro turbines, as well as boilers and generators across global markets.
